We want to provide an update on COVID-19 within our Claridge Court community. We learned on Thursday, December 17th, that one of our team members tested positive for the virus. We now have seven total active team member cases of the virus; all are self-isolating at home with the support of our Human Resources team.
We also learned today, Friday, December 18th, that one of our independent living residents tested positive for the virus. By way of recap, we have five total resident active cases of the virus; four are being cared for in our health center and one is being cared for in the hospital.
As a reminder, the most important thing to ensure your safety is to wear a mask. Team members providing direct and prolonged care and services to residents in their home or the health center wear special surgical and N95 or KN95 masks and face shields. Residents in the health center and independent living homes should also be masked when team members are providing care or service. Washing your hands frequently and practicing social distancing is also vital to preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
If you are identified as having had prolonged contact with any individuals who test positive for COVID-19, you will be contacted and instructed to self-quarantine for 14 days, per the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Johnson County Community Health Services and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
We understand that you have concerns about the current COVID-19 status in our community, and many of you have questions. Please know we continue in our commitment to protect the health and safety of our residents and team members. Our team continues to be proactive in mitigating the risk of further exposure to the virus within our community.
As a reminder, Lifespace and Claridge Court are continuing to follow heightened infection control guidelines. We highly encourage residents to only leave the community for essential needs like groceries or critical medical appointments. Residents and team members are also encouraged to practice social distancing, and we ask that you wear a mask or face covering when you interact with others in public settings. Continued attention to proper hand hygiene, including handwashing and the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, is essential to preventing the spread of the virus. As we have done throughout the last several weeks, we will regularly communicate updates about our efforts to maintain a safe and healthy community.
We appreciate your support and continued adherence to the protocols we have implemented to protect our residents and team members. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Claridge Court management team.
Thank you for your continued support.
